What's the difference between my Board Plan and SweetCash?

Both accounts are accessed by your Sweet Briar Card.

All residential students are required to participate in the standard 19 meal per week board plan which includes an Extended Dining Option that allows 3 purchases per week at the Houston Bistro and the remaining to be used in Student Commons.  Students living in the Green Village are required to participate in the standard 10 meal per week board plan.  In addition to the standard board plan, students may opt to purchase the Board PLUS Plan which allows for additional purchases at the Houston Bistro.  Each time you access a campus dining facility - Prothro Dining or the Houston Bistro depending on your plan - a meal is deducted from your weekly balance.

SweetCash is a prepaid spending account that is accepted at all dining locations on campus, The Book Shop, laundry facilities and vending machines.  It is designed to eliminate the need to carry cash or other cards around campus.  SweetCash is also welcomed at two local CVS Pharmacy locations.  You or your parents must add value to SweetCash before using it for purchases.   Value in SweetCash rolls over from semester to semester and from year to year.

When is value added to SweetCash available?

Funds transferred by debit/credit card and cash are available instantly.  Check deposits are available on the business day received. If a check is returned to us by your financial institution for insufficient funds, the deposit will be reversed from your SweetCash account and a Returned Payment/Check fee will be assessed.  If the Returned Payment/Check fee creates a negative balance in your account, you will be contacted to make another payment to the account.

|How do I make a purchase with SweetCash?

At retail locations, SweetCash works much like a debit or credit card.  Just present your Sweet Briar Card for payment to the attendant at the register.  Your card will be swiped in a terminal and the transaction authorized.  You will need to sign a printed receipt of the approved transaction.  At laundry facilities and vending machines, simply insert your card in the terminal.

How is SweetCash charged when using my account for laundry?

All machines are $2.00 per cycle.

When resident students use their Sweet Briar Card in laundry rooms, $2.00 for each transaction (washers and dryers) is deducted from your “Free Laundry” account.  If you have exceeded your Free Laundry credits for the semester, the system will then deduct the $2.00 from your SweetCash account.

For non-residents, when you swipe your Sweet Briar Card, $2.00 for each transaction (washers and dryers) is deducted from your SweetCash account.

If you swipe your Sweet Briar Card and never select a machine, you will not be charged.
